FRIARS’ Gate in Kilmallock has had a full year of hosting drama along with other events and explorations. This venue has an artist-in-residence, John Sheehy, a playwright who has launched several acclaimed works that went on to tour nationally and were booked in the city here by Theatre at the Savoy [much missed].

This Friday December 4 and Saturday 5 at 8pm, another premiere will take place. ‘Catching the Train’ is not by Sheehy but by a group mentored by the Callback Theatre writer/ producer over the past couple of years.

The joint effort is written by Mary Angland, Mary-Anne Bartlett, Mary Bradford and Marie O’Halloran. According to manager of Friars’ Gate, Caoimhe Reidy, ‘Catching the Train’ tells the stories of three individuals.

“[They] are brought together by Molly, a woman who likes to help; Sarah, put into the County Home by a brutal father; Danny, cursed with the affliction of fainting; and George, a man who doubts the paternity of his son. A powerful play with a sting in its tail”.

Directed by Mandy Donworth and with a game cast,  you can book a seat on www.friarsgate.ie
