TWO improvised explosive devices have been discovered in County Limerick this Thursday lunchtime after a garda investigation into ongoing suspicious activity brought them to farmlands near Fedamore.
Gardai, with a view to validating the suspicious activity and in what is understood to be connected to dissidents, investigated the area and called in the support of the Explosive Ordinance Service team from their Cork army base.
Chief Superintendent Dave Sheahan told the Limerick Post that despite the attrocious weather the EOD team together with a large number of Garda including members of the RSU and detectives from the serious crime office, uncovered two IED devices that had been concealed around 1pm.
“Today’s finds are a culmination into the efforts of the ongoing investigation into suspicious activity in parts of County Limerick.”
The planned operation, which began earlier this Thursday leading to a number of road closures, concluded with the two devices being taken away for further examination by the EOD team.
No arrests have been made in connection with the find but Gardai say that their investigations are ongoing.
