SCANDINAVIAN dance artist Maria Nilsson Waller brings her latest production ‘Blanca’ to Dance Limerick in John’s Square this Thursday 3 at 8pm.
For this dynamic new concept, she is choreographer, performer and conceived fluid lighting/ design elements. For the original soundscape, cutting edge jazz by Klabbes Bank and Je Suis! meets a mix of organic computer-generated visuals and compelling choreography.
According to Dance Limerick’s Maeve Butler, ”Inspired by psychology, video games, creation myths and hours of improvisation, ‘Blanca’ is a visual, moving and poetic reflection on the Sami – Scandinavia’s indigenous people – and a journey of raw sound and physicality”.
A Swede herself, Nilsson Waller has produced work around Europe for almost a decade. She is currently with the Swedish professional football team OFK to fashion a new dance piece with the players in a unique collision between sport and dance.
Director of the resource at John’s Square, Jenny Traynor, is excited about her venue getting to host ‘Blanca’. “I experienced her impressive performance at Dublin Dance Festival earlier this year and thought this piece would work beautifully in the Dance Limerick Space, as well as appealing to the wider Limerick community…It’s beautiful”.
