CELEBRATING Southill Family Resource Centre’s 15 years as central facilitator, hub and project platform is central to ‘Southside Story’. This is an original performance piece conceived by Southside Women’s Group and Southside Men’s Shed, with [co-writer, co-producer, co-director] Karen Fitzgibbon.

It will air for one night only, Wednesday December 2.

Lime Tree Theatre is venue and “we have more than 400 tickets sold already in this 510-seater”, a joyful Fitzgibbon told Arts page as far back as Friday 13. “This is a brand new original story”.

‘Southside Story’ borrows from classics such as ‘West Side Story’ and ‘Romeo and Juliet’, romantic epics of divide, and brings a cast of 20 to perform. Most have not acted previously.

With the Men’s Shed building the stage and a costume designer engaged to remake the 1970s for the first half of this 90 minute show, “with songs appropriate to the era”, this will be an upbeat variety full of vitality. There’s also an interval driven by flamenco guitar, splicing the 90 minute perfomance with another.
