IT IS with sadness that a long standing family business in the city centre, Jack Fitzgerald Electrical, lost its founder and patriarch this week.

Mr Jack Fitzgerald was an entrepreneurial retailer whose early working life took him to positions in Stokes & McKiernans, and McMahons of Limerick.

He set up his own retail outlet in electrical goods and installations in 1979 at Howley’s Quay.

Jack Fitzgerald Electrical flourished with local support. Today it is owner-managed by son John, and John’s brother Raymond is owner-manager of Jack Fitzgerald Electrical in Kilmallock and in Charleville.

Jack had a lifelong marriage to Rose, who is as avid a golfer as he was, attached to Adare Manor Golf Club where he held the position of trustee. A life member, he won numerous prizes and tournaments over the decades. Patrickswell GAA was another passion and he was the proud holder of a county medal in 1954.

He is survived by his wife, sons and daughters Rosemary, Elaine and Audrey, their partners, grandchildren and extended family. His brothers Noel and Tom and sisters Peg and Moira mourn his passing, as does the social and business community of Limerick and Patrickswell, his home town.

Jack Fitzgerald passed away in the care of St John’s Hospital on Tuesday November 10, 2015.

Reposing at Thompson’s Funeral Home on Thursday November 12 from 5pm to 7.30pm, followed by removal to Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Patrickswell. Requiem Mass on Friday 13 at 12noon, with burial afterwards in Patrickswell Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations, if desired, to the Irish Cancer Society.
