CECILIAN Musical Society veers “left of field” for ‘The Addams Family’ at Lime Tree Theatre, its second bumper production this year. Choreographer Barbara Meaney, working with husband Des Henn as director and Jacinta Florish on costume, is delighted with this choice – more theatrical, comedic and funky than mainstream form.

“It’s not a musical, more of a dark comedy with six or seven numbers to choreograph. This is such a visual show as most of the cast [40] are ancestors of The Addams Family, they are all dead. They meet up in a graveyard once in the year but Fester will not let them go back underground until the problem of Wednesday’s love life is solved”.

Monday’s press reception at Lime Tree Theatre was a playground of the ghoulishly adorable, cobwebs and skeletons giving vintage threads ethereal dimension. Professional make up artist Ali Murphy will tutor Breda Ryan’s LCFE students of Special FX Make-Up in grooming their ghostly pallor; Jacinta’s colleagues in Analog wing on transatlantic flights to HQ in Boston, bringing home quality wardrobe for a song.

It takes no crystal ball to see spectacular spooks making whoopie.

Chairman Jamie Purcell acknowledged all players on his team, crediting Brian Murphy over technicalities and sister Sheenagh in stage management as well as LCFE. Guest of honour was councillor Maria Byrne who took pride in telling us she is a societal alumnus, having crewed on eight Cecilian shows.
