THEY have been based outside Ireland for some time now but the music of Relish is back on the national airwaves, thanks in part to the wonderful funky earworm that is their current single ‘Got It Made’.
While the band Relish kept a low profile in recent years, the brothers Ken and Carl Papenfus were busy writing and producing for other artists and were part of Sinead O’Connor’s touring band for her acclaimed album, ‘I’m Not Bossy, I’m The Boss’.
Relish are on a nationwide tour to promote the reissue of two of their records ‘Wildflowers’ and ‘Karma Calling’ as a double album available in digital format for the first time.
Ken explained to Limerick Post, “We decided to add new track ‘Got It Made’ to the reissue of the first two albums, we thought that fans deserved a new track and a promise of what is to come.”
The release on iTunes and streaming has garnered attention for the band from well beyond these shores, and a tour of Asia is planned for next year.
“Still a lot of interest in the albums. We wanted to take advantage of the new mediums and we are getting responses from Indonesia and Japan where we have toured before.”
Relish have been making music for over 15 years now. They achieved success in Japan and the UK and supporting bands as diverse as U2, At The Drive In and Kelis, winning admirers ranging from Queen’s Brian May to Sinead O’Connor.
Brian May commented after seeing the band live, “At last a band from this side of the Atlantic that knows what they’re doing.”
The duo are working on a new album due for release mid-2016. Playing live in Limerick this weekend Relish will joined by bass and rhythm guitar players. You will hear all the favourites, ‘You I’m Thinking Of’ and ‘Rainbow Zephyr’ and a smattering of new material from next year’s album release.
Relish play Dolan’s this Friday November 6 with support from Cillian Foster’s GDC.
