The Mid-West’s 1st honorary consul to Mexico

THE first honorary consul to represent the Mexican community in the MidWest and Kilkenny has been appointed. Mr  Ronan Branigan, managing director of The Savoy Hotel Group, was invited by the Mexican Ambassador to Ireland, Carlos Garcia de Alba to take up the post this summer. On Friday October 16, the inauguration ceremony took place at his hotel on Henry Street.

Mr Branigan has a long standing familial and embassy relationship with Mexico, the world’s 14th largest economy.

A guest list of several hundred embraced Ministers, Limerick City and County Councils, the Metropolitan Mayor, TDs of all colours, representatives of the business and cultural communities, and fellow honorary consuls.

Festivities opened in the lobby with a Mexican band and a cocktail created in the colours of the national flag, prior to formal dinner with a succession of dance and music entertainment that continued into the late hours.

See the Limerick Post’s interview with Ronan Branigan and Ambassador De Alba this Thursday 22 as to their short and longer term plans to progress the consulate, operating out of The Savoy’s business suite.
