LIMERICK’S ninth annual Polish arts festival was launched by the Polish Ambassador to Ireland, His Excellency Ryszard Sarkowicz at Hunt Museum on the afternoon of Thursday 15. Cantata Deo Choir enhanced the occasion for Amabassadaor Sarkowicz, his wife Anna, festival co-ordinator Jystyna Cwozdzinska, honorary consul Pat O’Sullivan and invited guests who were also privy to an exhibition of Polish artists working in Ireland.
The party adjourned to George Boutique Hotel, a principal sponsor to this fortnight-long celebration of matters cultural and intellectual of Poland, and its community in the Mid West. A reception unfolded and the Hotel is host the Ambassador and his wife as they officiate in Limerick.
The festival programme extends until Sunday 31. Today Friday 16 and for Saturday 17, it embraces workshops and lectures looking at ‘Gender in Social and Cultural Practices’. Again, The Hunt Museum is venue.
More family friendly is the Polish arts and crafts and food fair this Saturday from 10.30 am to 4pm. Janusz Biarda’s photographic show, ‘Faces of the Milk Market’ at The Gallery Market House is open on Saturdays only, until October 31.
There are also workshops and concerts at the Hunt and Dolan’s Bar, Dock Road and St Michael’s Church in Denmark Street for the bank holiday weekend and beyond.
