THE IRISH Wire Products sponsored County Senior Football final takes place this weekend in Kilmallock.
The show piece event of 2015 will see Dromcollogher/ Broadford take on Newcastlewest at 4pm.
In what is a repeat of the 2012 and 2004 finals, both won by Dromcollogher/ Broadford, the two sides who topped their initial groups will do battle to lift the Fr Casey Cup.
“It’s a huge day for Newcastlewest,” commented club captain Stephen Nix.
“We started off slow enough in the championship, but we managed to get some wins when we needed them. We just kept training away and the results started to come,” Nix continued.
Newcastlewest defeated Ballylanders in the semi final, their first championship win over  the current county champions.
Looking ahead to this weekend’s clash, Nix knows that it will be a tough game once more, with 2012 memories “well forgotten about”.
“This is a new year and a new panel. We just have to work hard on the day against the favourites. We just have to work hard on the day and see where the result takes us”.
Nix and his team mates will face a Drom/ Broadford side chasing their eighth county title, having only won their first in 2001.
A man who is seeking to win that elusive eight medal is Micháel Reidy. The former Limerick inter county star, is also a member of the backroom team with Drom/Broadford, but is very much focused on the job at hand on the field this weekend.
“Every year is different and every final we make is special. It will be no different this time around. Newcastlewest are a very strong side and we are all looking forward to it,” added Reidy.
Last season, losing in the semi final, was seen as a blip by Drom/Broadford, something which Reidy and Co are not exactly using as motivation for this weekend.
“In all walks of life, you can do nothing about the past. You can only deal with the future and what is next to come. Last year is last year. We are looking to Sunday and Sunday only. That is the main focus for us.”
