THE 2015 Limerick Senior Hurling final takes place this weekend and it features the first meeting in a decider of Patrickswell and Na Piarsaigh.
The game, which throws in at 3pm on Sunday in the Gaelic Grounds see 18 times champions Patrickswell taking on two time champions Na Piarsaigh.
The ‘Well’, coached by Limerick greats Mark Foley and Ciaran Carey demolished Adare in the semi final last weekend, making it six wins from six in the championship this season. Their opponents, Na Piarsaigh, lowered the banner of the current Limerick and Munster club champions Kilmallock in their semi final. Fans at HQ on Sunday are in for a real treat.
Speaking ahead of the clash Cathal King, Na Piarsaigh’s captain admitted that building on the club’s recent success is the main focus for Sunday.
“The work has been done over the last number of months and we hope that it shows on Sunday. We know that clubs can go up and down over time. We have won two county titles and we want to win more, as there is no guarantee we will win another one”
Ciaran Carey, the Patrickswell manager admitted that this year has seen the club return to the ‘old school’ methods which have stood to them in the past.
“We went back to grass roots. A small bit of old stock training and mentality. Hurling is more than a pastime and have given it more of the time and respect that is deserves. That and we have to respect the jersey as much as the game.”
On the football front, the 2015 Irish Wire Sponsored Senior football final will see Dromcollogher/Broadford take on Newcasltewest on Sundaty October 18.
In what is a repeat of the 2012 final, the county sides will face off in Kilmallock with a 3pm throw in time.
Newcastlewest were the first side into the final following their impressive 3-11 to 2-4 win over the champions Ballylanders last weekend in the semi final double header in Kilmallock.
A counter attacking performance from the men in black saw them reach their fourth final in five years. The men from the West are seeking their first county title since 1992 and their third over all.
The second semi final was won by Dromcollogher/Broadford over Monaleen on a scoreline of 1-13 to 2-6. Michael Reidy’s goal for the seven times champions saw them break away from the city side after the break.
In what was a game of two halves, the scoreline of 2-4 to 0-7 in favour of Monaleen at the break was turned on it’s head in the second thirty as the 2013 champions outscored the men in red 1-6 to 0-2 in the second half.
