A FULL scale emergency response plan was escalated this Friday night when an alert was raised to attend the River Shannon for a call that a person believed to have entered the water.

At approx 8.15pm a call came into Limerick city fire and rescue that a person was seen jumping into the river off the railway bridge on long pavement.

Limerick city fire and rescue sent 3 fire tenders and their rescue boat to the scene.

The fire service were joined by the Limerick marine search and rescue and the Shannon based coast guard helicopter rescue 115 helicopter.

An extensive search was carried out and at the moment nothing has been found.

The Gardai are investigating.
