LIMERICK Lions Club is facing into the closing series of 50th year anniversary celebrations and as ever, is mindful of charity as much as community.
In partnership with The Garda Band, a major concert is scheduled for the banqueting and conference centre at South Court Hotel on Thursday October 29 with guest singers Mairead Buicke and Owen Gilhooly as well as The Aoide Choir, trained by the Lisnagry based tenor.
“The concert is the brainchild of Lions member Goretti Campbell, who is a member of Aoide Choir”, says Ray Cullinane, hardworking PRO of Limerick Lions. “She pitched the idea to us towards the end of last year as it takes a long time to get The Garda Band – it’s been a while since they played in Limerick and they are the mainstay of this concert”.
All proceeds will go to local charities. Tickets are €20 each and available from (086) 3527418 or (087) 2544524 . You can buy directly from ADAPT Domestic Abuse Services, Rosbrien on (086) 8076587.
Impressive spot prizes collected to boost the raffle on the night include paintings by Maeve McCormack Nolan and Henry Morgan, a hamper and other goods. Local businesses have rowed in as sponsor as well, helping to defray costs for Limerick Lions Club; the club is happy to state that Gilhooly, Buicke and of course, the choir are giving their services to the evening free of charge.
What this (recent) tenor says of his choral group is: “We sing for fun, to improve ourselves and in the process we help those less fortunate. What could be more rewarding?! Our solo items have not been decided with the band yet for October 29, but the choir’s repertoire is based on the music from movies and musicals”.
