LIMERICK Jazz Festival, that welcome international event that fills a dozen venues in town with music, sweet music, presents for a fourth year this Friday 25 to Sunday 27.

The opening gig is a major noise and a joyful one with amazing vocalists, Paul Jost and Laoise O’Hanlon.

They sing with Paul Dunlea’s Big Band at 8pm in No. 69 O’Connell Street. There’s a third special guest in vibraphone maestro Tony Miceli; a recurring loop to the programme will be the 100th birthday of Frank Sinatra.

“Paul Dunlea is a major force in Irish music and as well as being a big name and band leader, he is a great arranger,” underlines festival chair, John Daly. “He has already been in touch to request two hours rehearsal uninterrupted at the venue before this concert which is typical of his work ethic.

“One of the musicians coming through with his band is the fresh name of George Hogg on trumpet and there’s Linley Hamilton, our artist in residence for the weekend, who will play trumpet and Flugelhorn”.
