LIMERICK Jazz Festival, that welcome international event that fills a dozen venues in town with music, sweet music, presents for a fourth year this Friday 25 to Sunday 27.
The opening gig is a major noise and a joyful one with amazing vocalists, Paul Jost and Laoise OโHanlon.
They sing with Paul Dunleaโs Big Band at 8pm in No. 69 OโConnell Street. Thereโs a third special guest in vibraphone maestro Tony Miceli; a recurring loop to the programme will be the 100th birthday of Frank Sinatra.
โPaul Dunlea is a major force in Irish music and as well as being a big name and band leader, he is a great arranger,โ underlines festival chair, John Daly. โHe has already been in touch to request two hours rehearsal uninterrupted at the venue before this concert which is typical of his work ethic.
โOne of the musicians coming through with his band is the fresh name of George Hogg on trumpet and thereโs Linley Hamilton, our artist in residence for the weekend, who will play trumpet and Flugelhornโ.
Expect a night of Dunleaโs original composition and of course, Sinatraโs finest sung in song pairs for the night alternating with instrumentals. Hark for โFly me to the Moonโ, โAll the Wayโ and โUnder my Skinโ.
