LIMERICK artist Jim O’Farrell will preview an exhibition of his watercolour paintings prior to their official launch in Calcutta (December) at The Greenhills Hotel this Friday 25 . It’s a chance for local visual art buffs to view the goods prior to the Indian opening by the Irish Ambassador to India, His Excellency Mr Felim McLaughlin.
After that formal launch the show of monuments and landmark buildings will go on permanent display in St Joseph’s College, Calcutta.
Looping on to present times and back to Limerick, the Ennis Road exhibition will be opened by Michael Noonan TD, Minister for Finance. Everyone is welcome.
O’Farrell’s connection with Calcutta goes back five years ago when he travelled with a group of volunteers under the guidance of Fr Pat Hogan, PP of Southill. ”It is a most magical place with the most wonderful people who, despite having so little, are so content in their lives,” is his heartfelt appreciation.
This retired County Limerick VEC teacher has returned annually having found a new vocation teaching the street children through a school programme.
