THE ULSTER Bank All Ireland league returns to action this weekend with seven Limerick senior clubs in action.
The restructed competition sees five divisions of 10 teams this season, with each side playing each other both home and away. This had been the case in the top two divisions for the last number of seasons, but all five will now take on the same format.
Division 1A will again see the top four sides at the end of the regular season enter into a playoff semi final, while there will also be play offs in each of the four divisions below 1A.
E.G. The top side in Division 1B will be promoted automatically, with the second and third placed sides playing once semi final, while fourth in 1B, will play second from bottom in 1A, in the other semi final. The winner of the play off final would then be promoted (remaining in 1A).
The changes in the league have been welcomed by the clubs, with the chance of end of season dead rubbers being greatly reduced.
Young Munster and Garryowen will carry the Limerick torch in Division 1A, while UL Bohemians and Shannon will battle it out for promotion in 1B. Thomond are Limerick’s only representative in 2A, while Bruff and Old Crescent will take in the fifth division, 2C. This weekend’s fixtures are to the right, with the first team at home.
