MOLLY Martens has vowed to take “ever legal step” to regain custody of Jason Corbett’s children, Jack and Sarah, but the family of the deceased Limerick man say that the Texan, who is “person of interest” in the murder investigation is embarking, with the Martens family, on a campaign of deluded and very unrealistic desperate propaganda.
Speaking to Newstalk radio this Monday morning, Ms Martens said that she has had no contact with the two children despite her pleas for them to contact her on Facebook.
“I have not spoken to them since my visitation with them under which we were all under the impression that it was a visitation and not a good bye.”
Refusing to give any other comment, Ms Martens said that her uncle, Mike Earnest would speak more.
Originally from Limerick city Jason Corbett (39) died on August 2 in his home in North Carolina during a domestic disturbance.
His American wife Molly Martens Corbett and her father Thomas Martens (65), a former FBI agent, have been named by police as ‘persons of interest’ in the investigation into his death, however nobody has been arrested.
Molly’s uncle, Mike Earnest, a special agent fraud investigator with the Federal Law Enforcement claimed, that Jason Corbett had said he intended to, “get joint citizenship for himself and the children. This would mean that it would help Molly to be able to adopt them.
“The children don’t deserve to be wrenched away without being allowed a proper goodbye. The children were never interviewed by the court and asked what they wanted. Molly and all the children’s family here have not heard from them since leaving here almost two weeks ago.
“This is why she is sending them messages over Facebook to let them know how much she loves them and in the hope she will hear from them. ”
“Not taking one thing away from their father, but a large part of that – if not the majority of that – is from what they’ve gotten from their mother” he told Newstalk Breakfast.
“And I will say this: Molly is very, very distraught about what has happened but she has not lost any faith that her children will one day be returned to her care”.
“And she’s prepared to take every legal step available to see that happen” he added.
Rejecting the comments made by the Martens family, John Corbett said that on behalf of his family “we have tried to handle this traumatic ongoing very real human story regarding my brother Jason Corbett’s brutal murder and the loving care of his two children Jack and Sarah in a dignified Christian way.
“But we feel we need to respond to the deluded and very unrealistic desperate propaganda by the Marten’s family.
Jason, Jack and Sarah’s legal resident status or green card application was deliberately done through Jason’s job by Jason. Specifically to protect the kids. He could have easily done it through Molly’s family and was under tremendous pressure from them all to agree…
“However, because of his now very fatal concerns, he applied through his job.
“Jason never entertained the idea of making his children dual American/Irish Citizens as Mr Michael Ernest falsely stated…
“While we can’t comment on the time kids spent with Molly, you can take from that that there were concerns and these concerns were explored and made very clear at the court hearing.
“My sister and family are focused on the care nurturing and needs of Jack and Sarah and not themselves.
“There is no narcissism on our side only pure love for my brothers children who was murdered in his own home -the home Jason bought for his children and Molly to live in.
“Of course the Martens are willing to take every legal step, they are using uncaringly coldly my dead brother’s money which he left to his kids to fund their callous agenda…
“If she had any real maternal motherly feelings or love for the kids or sensitivity she would not be seeking to traumatise them…
“However, I can assure the public the kids are not even aware of any of this coverage…
“Despite the fact that Molly Martens is bombarding her face book page with pictures of my brothers and Mags children.
“With not one mention of my beloved brother Jason Corbett.”
In the lengthy statement, Mr Corbett revealed that “Molly Martens took my brothers children for ice team the day after Jason was killed. Most normal loving caring people would find this unusual.
On the killing of his brother, John Corbett said that “there has not been one ounce of remorse or compassion from the Martens Family to those kids for killing their dad, no remorse or contact to my Mam and Dad for killing their son. No one, nothing only Facebook posts to appear to the public as if they are concerned about the kids.”
This, Mr Corbett said is done “to put up a very false deceitful image to try and protect their own necks.”
Jack and Sarah are in a very normal secure loving environment Mr Corbett said adding that the two young children are mourning their dad and “not once asked after her”.
“They are out of the awful unhealthy environment they have been subjected to. Far away from the cold apathetic Martens family.
Mr Corbett added revealed that notes, phone numbers and other details were hidden in the children’s toys and that Jack and Sarah were warned not to tell anyone.
This Mr Corbett said was “not a normal thing to do… Of course they immediately told Aunty Tracey”.
“The Martens Family in the desperate throws of survival, with no real love for my nephew and niece.
“My poor abused brother is dead because he was a loving husband who wanted to protect his kids and bring them home.
“They are trying coldly to attack his character because he cannot speak for himself.
“I was not there to protect my brother Jason from the cowards
Mr Corbett said that the family respects the Davidson county sheriff’s office and that of the DA Garry Frank.
“We hope the DA will bring charges soon so my kind, generous, loving brother can have justice and the world will hear the real truth and not the deluded deceitful version of the Martens family.
“We will not rest until those who murdered my brother are convicted.
The statement closed with a clarification of “any misconceptions out there. Molly Martens was hired to do a job which was general cleaning and bring Jack and Sarah to and from crèche every day. This continued up to mid-2011 until they moved to America.
“In the three and half years, there has been 18 visits in Ireland and America along with numerous calls and letters both ways which were managed in the main by their daddy.
Mr Corbett said his niece and nephew are settling in well since they arrived home to Limerick and are both due to start school this week.
