AS GARDAI follow what they say is a definite line of inquiry, a man has been arrested in connection with an assault in Newcastle West that left another man fighting for his life in hospital.
In the early hours of Monday morning, a man in his 30s received a number of kicks to the head during a dispute outside a bar in Newcastle West.
The victim, after being treated at the scene, was hospitalised and has subsequently been placed in an induced coma at Cork University Hospital where he remain in a serious but stable condition.
On Monday night, Gardai arrested a local man in his 20s and detained him at Henry Street Garda Station for questioning in connection with the incident.
He can be held for 24 hours before charge.
Gardai in Newcastle West are still appealing for information on the incident.
