A NEW archival project by visual artists Andrew Kearney and Deirdre Power that stems from historic collective student action at their alma mater, Limerick School of Art and Design LIT, is to open at Ormston House.
Dr Mike Fitzpatrick, director of Limerick 2020, has launch honours this Thursday 20 at 7pm at the Patrick Street venue.
There’s a historic concept dating back to Limerick in 1983 when five 1st year students were asked to examine the idea of ‘place’ and ‘space’ through a land art project. Out of this, ‘Third Bridge’ was constructed from 180 polystyrene bricks strung along 185m nylon ropes, the bricks tinted yellow to suggest Dorothy’s yellow brick road to legend.
This year Ormston House asked Kearney and Power to revisit this early work and events. Now this exhibition has three elements, photographic, an illustrative archive and the site-specific installation itself at Sylvester O’Halloran footbridge at Potato Market.
Interestingly, ‘Third Bridge’ will close on Culture Night, Friday September 18 with the 2015 artists heading up a ‘citizens’ gathering’ and ferry trip for a re-imagining of the O’Halloran bridge. Book for a passage by email, [email protected]
