THE Limerick leg of the first ever Pieta 100 National Cycle Weekend will take place on Sunday, September 27.
And this week the Munster Rugby team took time out from training to help launch the inaugural charity event.
Limerick cyclists will be able to choose from either a 50km or 100km route, both starting at Mungret GAA club. Participants will pass the Pieta House Midwest House in the first 5km, which has been providing a service to the people of the region since 2012.
“We’re committed to offering a free service but we can only continue to do this with the help and support of the people and communities throughout Ireland,” said Pieta House Midwest centre manager, Martin O’Sullivan.
“Our vision is a world where suicide, self-harm and stigma have been replaced by hope, self-care and acceptance. I’d like to ask people of the Midwest to sign up to and support this cycle,” he added.
The Pieta 100 National Cycle Weekend will raise much needed funds for the nine Pieta House services across the country, as well as raising awareness of the issues of suicide and self-harm. Pieta House hopes that the event will become part of their annual fundraising calendar. Cycles are also taking place in Cork, Galway and Dublin.
