THE new single from Girl Band is ‘Paul’, out on Rough Trade. ‘Paul’ is taken from Girl Band’s debut album ‘Holding Hands with Jamie’, out on September 25.
The video for ‘Paul’ was made by Bob Gallagher, the man behind the Dublin four piece’s recent grizzly video for their eight-minute cover of Blawan’s ‘Why They Hide Their Bodies Under My Garage?’
Girl Band’s new video follows the unravelling of an actor in a pig costume on a kid’s TV show. Director Bob Gallagher explained.
“I’ve often watched kids’ TV with my goddaughters, and every time I do I can’t help but wonder, what it’s like for the actors behind the scenes? What the dynamics are like? There’s such a sheen on those shows of happiness that I thought it would be interesting to look at the flip side of that with a character who is full of self loathing but has to literally wear a big grin on his face.”
The highly anticipated album from Girl Band will be supported by a European and Ireland tour taking in Seoda Shows, Dolan’s in October.
This album was recorded in Bow Lane, Dublin. Guitarist Alan Duggan explained that the band laid down seven of the tracks in less than two days, giving the recordings an urgency that pulses with vitality and forward momentum.
“It was way more challenging to stay focused – tricky to find a balance between keeping a distance from the songs for perspective but also to fully concentrate on them.”
Girl Band make relentless, propulsive noise rock that is at its best unnerving, taking influences from techno and industrial noise. The are in a genre of their own making. Upcoming dates will make for a compelling experience.
Girl Band are Dara Kiely (vox), Adam Falkner (drums), Alan Duggan (guitar), Daniel Fox (bass). This quartet plays a highly anticipated show at Seoda Shows, Dolan’s on Friday October 2.
