NEWCASTLE West councillor Seamus Browne was selected at a Sinn Féin party convention this week to contest the forthcoming General Election in County Limerick.

Speaking after his selection, Cll Browne stated that a vote for Sinn Féin will be a vote for a “more humane and civilised society – one that looks after the poorest and weakest while also sustaining economic and social progress”.

“The Government says that a recovery is underway. But it is not a fair recovery. It’s a two-tier recovery that benefits the wealthy elite, not the majority of hard working families struggling to survive,” the West Limerick politician claimed.

He said he believes that a fair recovery is possible and that cronyism and greed can be replaced with fairness and hope.

“The type of country I want is based on the right to decent work with decent pay, access to first class public services, affordable childcare, abolition of water charges, a fair tax system and advancing the all Ireland economy for all our benefit.

“Sinn Féin has a vision for rural Ireland. It is a vision to make it a sustainable place to live and work. A place where the quality of life is matched by the quality of public services, a place where young educated graduates have the opportunity to stay and build their future and a place that welcomes back emigrants forced to leave over recent years.”
