A LIMERICK based artist, Tony O’Loughlin, had three of his seaside paintings selected for showing at Galway’s Fringe Festival just past, contingent on the international arts event. In September, The Hunt Museum will host his screenprints in the Hunt Café as part of the Museum’s month by month partnership with solo artists who are members of Limerick Printmakers.
A graduate of LSAD, over the years O’Loughlin has explored what is possible in art by using strong bold lines and vivid colour in his painting and drawing. Using different media this artist draws from thoughts and elements around us that are sometimes not possible to convey in other forms of communication. The use of black ink in his work can give great detail and looseness is required, ink can flood like a river.
A few years ago he returned to working in oils after a long absence. A narrative style of painting people interacting with the sea now incorporates these bold lines that are in his drawings. On facebook.com/tonyoloughlinartist
