TRANSPORT Minister Paschal Donohue has been asked to investigate how private bus companies can charge €10 to travel from Limerick to Dublin, yet it costs €10.10 for an adult travelling from the city to Rathkeale using Bus Éireann.
At this week’s Adare/Rathkeale local authority meeting, Cllr Kevin Sheahan said it was a scandal that passengers travelling to Dublin on private buses were paying 10 cents less for a 125-mile journey than those travelling 30 miles from city to county by public transport.
“The green bus is working. Bus Éireann is subsidised by the State. I don’t think this is fair and I’m calling on the Minister to take the necessary action.
His proposal was seconded by Fine Gael councillor Tom Neville.
