LOVE will be in the air in County Limerick this weekend during a world record breaking attempt.

The people of Kilteely and Dromkeen along with the support of public figure Leanne Moore and Waterford’s senior hurling manager Derek McGrath are hoping to enter the record books this Sunday, July 19 for the most people in one venue to make a heart shape using both hands.

This year’s weekend-long Kilteely/Dromkeen Festival is hoping to attract up to 650 people in order to break the current record of 554 people. The festival group are going to use the event to raise funds and awareness for Limerick-based charity Cliona’s Foundation that provides financial support to families of critically ill children.

The foundation is appealing for funding now more so than ever due to the increased number of applications they receive daily from desperate families struggling to cope with the financial pressures incurred while caring for a critically ill child.

Derek McGrath kicked off the campaign when he came to visit the Kilteely GAA club back in June and posed with the juvenile team while making the heart shaped gesture. Leanne Moore, ambassador for Cliona’s Foundation is also encouraging the people of Limerick to come out to enjoy the family fun day, break a world record and raise awareness for the deserving charity.

The world record attempt will kick off at 1.30pm in Kilteely this Sunday as part of the festival. It is hoped that people will give a donation to Cliona’s Foundation on the day or in advance by texting ‘CLIONA’ to 50300.

To be confident that the record can be broken, people who plan to attend are asked to register by texting their name to 087-3996562.
