LIMERICK’S flagship all-abilities, recreational amenity, The Manor Fields in Adare, has launched an ambitious fundraising campaign for the second phase of its development.

On the recent first anniversary of the opening of the popular all abilities playground, the community group behind the amenity launched a fundraising drive for a floodlit, synthetic pitch catering for several sports.

The primary fundraising effort is a confined draw for a €13,500 Hyundai i10 car, which will see a limited number of tickets going on sale for the draw at €100 each.

An online fundraising campaign on crowd funding website www.indiegogo.com is also live and it is hoped this will attract significant funding for the project from online and international sources.

When completed, the synthetic pitch will be the first in West Limerick.

While there are already significant funds raised towards the €600,000 cost of Phase 2 of the Manor Fields facility, additional funding of €200,000 is required to complete it.

Speaking at the launch, chairperson James Collins said: “We are delighted to be moving forward with the launch of the fundraising for the next phase at Manor Fields Adare. We are a community project owned, driven and designed for all members of our community with a major emphasis on providing facilities for people of all ages and all abilities.

“This is an important next step, which when completed in autumn of this year will be a major addition to West Limerick. The committee are confident that the community will row in behind our first major fundraising drive for the development of The Manor Fields. We also would like to extend a big thanks to those organisations and people who have helped us to come so far.”

Also speaking at the launch was committee member Elaine Sparling.

She commented: “We have seen thousands of children of all abilities playing on our all abilities playground in the year since it has opened. Phase 2 is an important next step to ensure the continued sustainability and development of The Manor Fields.”
