ACOUSTIC guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela return to Ireland next Monday for a one off exclusive Irish show playing Live at the Big Top at Limerick Milk Market. It has been seven years since Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero played in Limerick. Neil Dolan of Dolan’s Warehouse told Limerick Post Newspaper,
“I’m delighted to welcome Rodrigo y Gabriela back to Limerick, we have been chasing them to play the Big Top for a few years and are ecstatic that they will play an exclusive date with us.”
During an eight year stay in Dublin the duo, originally from Mexico, forged a career from busking Metallica covers bossa nova style in the streets to filling venues throughout the country. Their exciting, intricate instrumental duets make Rodrigo y Gabriela a ‘must see’ show a musical tour de force that has to be experienced live to be fully appreciated.
They have released five studio albums, three live albums and one EP. In 2011 they collaborated with Hans Zimmer on the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ soundtrack while also contributing to the soundtrack for the Shrek prequel ‘Puss in Boots’. They have toured internationally and in May 2010, performed at The White House for President Barack Obama.
Rodrigo y Gabriela are working on a new album at the moment, collaborating with guest musicians from different genres and even writing their own lyrics. They have now introduced words into the set, covering the likes of Radiohead’s ‘Creep’ to keep challenging themselves.
