River search stood down

-

coast-guard-helicopter-390x285 A SEARCH for a person reportedly seen entering the water at Sarsfield Bridge was stood down in the early hours of the morning, with rescue personnel describing it as “a good intent” call rather than a hoax call.

Limerick Marine Search and Rescue, Limerick City Fire and Rescue and the Shannon-based rescue helicopter began conducting a search on an area of the river close to the Strand Hotel at approximately 11.30pm last night after a member of the public reported seeing a person entering the water.

Peter Hogan, PRO with Limerick Marine Search and Rescue told the Limerick Post: “It was a good intent call. Somebody rang in because they thought they saw somebody enter the water at the front of the Strand Hotel.

“However at the time there was a very low tide so the person would have broken their neck rather than going in the water. For safety reasons just to double check we did a dive and nobody was found so it was stood down around 2am.”
