Skateboard enthusiasts at ‘Raw Cycles’ in the Delta Retail Park were wowed by a once-in-a-lifetime show last Friday as the infamous skater Tony Hawk graced the ramps with his signature tricks and daredevil manoeuvres. The three hour skate was Tony Hawk’s last before he tied the knot to partner Cathy Goodman in the Adare Manor Hotel on Saturday in an exclusive ceremony attended by Hollywood celebrities such as Johnny Knoxville.
Staff at the ‘Raw Cycles’ skate park had kept news of the former pro skater’s appearance under wraps for a month after the identity behind the booking was revealed to them. The private booking had been made three months in advance of the skateboarding hero’s arrival. Tony was accompanied to the park by a party of 30, including son and fellow skater Riley. Starstruck staff were thrilled that the 47-year-old chose to skate with them and there was even an opportunity for fans to pose with him for photos. At the end of his session, he presented the skateboard he used to ‘Raw Cycles’.
After his wedding in the gardens of Adare Manor the following day, June 27th, Tony greeted locals in the area and posted photos of the reception to his millions of followers on social media. The skater has a busy year ahead, with the Birdhouse European Vacation tour commencing in July and his new game, ‘Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5’ due in late September.
