Gardaí in Limerick are investigating a shooting incident that left a man in critical condition in Castleroy this morning.
At around 6.50am a man in his 50s was approached by two armed and masked men as he parked his car in the grounds of the University of Limerick. He was shot a number of times as he fled on foot. His attackers left the scene in a car.
The injured man was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick where his condition was described as critical.
A car understood to be connected with the incident was located on fire a shot distance away.
The scene is preserved for a technical and forensic examination.
