THE average monthly rent in the private sector across County Limerick in the first quarter of 2015 was €628. According to the latest findings from the Private Residential Tenancies Board (PRTB), this figure was up €2 when compared to the average rent in the first quarter of 2014. The latest PRTB Quarterly Rent Index, which is compiled by the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) is based on the actual rents being paid, according to the PRTB’s records, as distinct from the asking or advertised rent. Rents for private sector accommodation across the country rose by almost seven per cent in the last year. Rents for houses were 6.5 per cent higher, while apartment rents were 7.8 per cent higher.
