FIANNA Fail councillor Michael Collins was this week elected as Cathaoirleach of Newcastle West Municipal District.
Cllr Collins was proposed for the position by Cllr Francis Foley (FF) and seconded by outgoing cathaoirleach Cllr Jerome Scanlan (FG). Collins promised to run meetings efficiently as possible but warned that he would be more strict than Cllr Scanlan was.
“I will be stringent when it comes to the agenda,” he told council members.
However, Cllr Collins also vowed to be fair and impartial and to work to the best of his abilities on the community’s behalf.
Cllr Jerome Scanlan wished Cllr Collins well in the year ahead and predicted that he would do a good job of promoting the position of Cathaoirleach in the district.
Cllr Francis Foley was proposed as Leas Cathaoirleach by Cllr Liam Galvin (FG). This was seconded by Cllr John Sheahan (FG).
