Merriman mulls over Love and Marriage

OPERATING out of glór in Ennis this year, Merriman Summer School will run from Wednesday August 12 to Saturday 15 under the direction of UCC’s Dr Linda Connolly. Under the banner of ‘Love and Marriage Revisited’, the few days will look at the impact of the referendum and at the passing of the Children and Family Relationships Act (2015).

Catherine McGuinness, former Supreme Court judge, will open proceedings on August 12 at 7pm, reflecting on some of the ways in which Irish society has redefined love and marriage in recent decades.

The school will comprise of lectures, seminars, concerts, poetry readings, writer interviews and informal gatherings. Those addressing supporters will include historian Roy Foster, Lucy McDiarmid, Tom Inglis, Patricia Coughlan, Conor O’Mahony, journalist Carol Coulter, novilest Donal Ryan, and poets Ailbhe Ní Ghearbhuigh, Rita Ann Higgins and Doireann Ní Ghríofa.
