LIMERICK  based firm Praxis Architecture, nominated nationally for online voting in the Irish Architecture Awards 2015’s People’s Choice: www.irisharchitectureawards.ie/public-choice/,    had a worthwhile call to Dublin for ceremonies.

On June 18 last, the RIAI award event took place and while Michael O’Connor’s Praxis  was not winner, their projects were Commended in relevant categories, Best House and Best Emerging Practice.

The nominated structure was CK House, a private dwelling  in Castleconnell designed for a green field site to a brief and budget outlined by the client family.

Praxis Architecture’s four-strong staff, working out of Creagh House, was nominated also for Best Emerging Practice, based on their precis of selected projects.

Speaking to Limerick Post prior to the industry and consumer-driven awards, O’Connor described the the architecture done by Praxis as “involving a lot of domestic work but we do a lot of other buildings as well”.

Client feedback  had informed some of the entry submission to the Awards. The praise is pointed. “From the outset the architect demonstrated a clear commitment to engage with us/ understand our needs. Their iterative approach allowed us to participate in key design decisions, particularly if budget could be impacted.

“Together we created a much loved family home, on time/ on budget and with ‘wow’ factor also”.

* praxis is the process by which a theory, lesson, or skill is enacted, practiced, embodied, or realised. It may also refer to the act of engaging, applying, exercising, realizing, or practising ideas
