LABOUR Party councillor Elena Secas is calling on Limerick City and County Council to get Irish Water extend the city sewerage network out towards Ballyclough.
According to the City East representative, septic tanks are becoming a bigger issue in this area as people were being refused planning permission for septic tanks at certain sites due to poor percolation and high water tables.
“I have been told that septic tank inspections are currently being carried out in the area and some of them have failed, so people need a solution to this issue,” Cllr Secas told the Limerick Post.
“Ballyclough is only a few kilometres from Limerick’s Main Drainage and extending the sewerage network out towards this area provides a realistic and sustainable alternative to septic tanks and one-off property systems that are actually very expensive.
“The Council has advised that this would require capital investment and thus would need to be dealt with by Irish Water. I will ensure that the Council advises Irish Water and that they will follow up on the issue with them,” she said.
