AN 11-yea-old poet from Adare is on cloud nine after taking home third prize in a prestigious Listowel Writers’ Week competition. Katie Purser, a fifth class pupil at St Nicholas’ National School in Adare, competed against hundreds of other youngsters in the annual Creative Writing for 12 years and under contest. Katie’s beguiling poem, ‘The Rainbow’ was inspired by a rainbow she saw on the very day her teacher asked the class to write a poem for creative writing. The talented young poet said she was “thrilled” to hear she had come third place, and enjoyed attending the awards.
