LIMERICK Fianna Fáil TD Willie O’Dea has condemned the Government for rowing back on a key commitment to fix water pipes free of charge in homes as part of Irish Water’s ‘First Fix’ policy. “As a result of this decision, hundreds of homeowners in Limerick with dangerous lead pipes will find themselves having to pay on the double in order to ensure they have access to a safe and secure water supply. The scale of the problem has been clear under EPA surveys which have indicated that up to 200,000 homes across the country could possess lead supply pipes. This presents a serious threat to the health of residents, which is heightened for young children and pregnant women”, he said.
