FOYNES Air Show has landed a prestigious award at the Aviation Industry Awards 2015.
Foynes Air Show was one of five shortlisted in the General and Sport Aviation Award category. The others were Bray Air Display, National Flight Centre, Executive Helicopters and National Microlight Association of Ireland.
Speaking to the Limerick Post afterwards, Foynes Air Show director Margaret O’Shaughnessy said: “It is great excitement to win such a prestigious award on our very first air show.”
“It was a wonderful night and Foynes was delighted to be part of these outstanding awards. A big thank you to all our air show sponsors and supporters and to Approved Productions for their expertise and management of the event.”
Following the big win, Transport, Tourism and Sport Minister, Paschal Donohoe TD, tweeted, “Congratulations on your award. No surprise. Hope to join you this summer.”
The 2014 Foynes Air Show celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Pan American Airways ‘Yankee Clipper’ flying-boat making history with the first commercial transatlantic crossing to Foynes. The airshow, which cost €115,000 to put on, attracted 20,000 spectators to the West Limerick port town, and was worth an estimated revenue of one million to the local economy.
The 2015 Air Show will take place on Sunday July 26, sponsored by Limerick City and County Council. For more details log onto www.foynesairshow.com.
