A FIVE-YEAR-OLD Limerick girl will cut her 18-inch-long ponytail in aid of two children’s charities.
Little Clare Murphy from Castletroy View will have her hair cut as a sponsored ponytail donation in aid of children’s charity BUMBLEance. Clare will also be donating her ponytail to the Rapunzel Foundation to help make wigs for children suffering from Alopecia.
Clare’s parents Alan and Sarah say they are very proud of their daughter whose long locks are three-quarters the length of her body.
Mother Sarah said: “Clare had lots of hair when born and it was the first thing people commented on when they saw her as a newborn baby. She has only ever had her hair trimmed once. Her hair badly needs a cut and we thought we may as well do some good with it.
“People have often said if we were ever cutting her hair we should donate it, so it’s been at the back of our minds for quite a while”, she added.
Founder of BUMBLEance Tony Heffernan said he is overwhelmed by Clare’s gesture and understands that every little girl’s hair is precious to them. He said: “This is for two very good causes and the money for BUMBLEance will help transport children across the country to appointments. Clare is inspirational.”
However, she is a little worried that people won’t recognise her with her new haircut.
Clare will have her ponytail cut at Bellisimo Salon on Friday June 19.
