A PUBLIC road in West Limerick has gone on the missing list.
The L6029 in Kilfinny — an 80 km local road — is in much need of some love and attention but it seems to have slipped off the radar as far as the maintenance department of Limerick City and County Council is concerned.
Forsaken by the local authority, it is overgrown and abandoned and in parts now looks like it was the location used to shoot the Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn Hollywood classic, ‘African Queen’.
Fianna Fáil councillor Richard O’Donoghue told the council executive at this month’s Adare-Rathkeale municipal district meeting that he could not drive through the road on a tractor.
“The road needs to be cleaned up, reopened and resurfaced or turned into a walkway for the local community. This is a council road and should be kept at a council standard,” Cllr O’Donoghue explained.
Operations manager for the South and West Divisions, Brian Kennedy told the councillor that the local authority would follow up on the issue.
