LIMERICK City and County Council is to carry out a review of traffic-calming measures at Dromkeen on the N24 following complaints from motorists.
The N24 Dromkeen traffic calming scheme was carried out at a cost of half a million euro.
According to reports from locals, the addition of a footpath at the turn for the Cappamore Road has narrowed the junction, causing difficulties for heavy goods vehicles and agricultural machinery turning from the N24.
The council says the “tightening or reducing of radii at the existing side road junctions” is aimed at making the village a safer environment for vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists by limiting “the potential for vehicles being able to turn into the side road at high speed thus reducing the risk of collision with any pedestrians using the junction”.
A spokesperson for the local authority said it was good design practice “to limit speeds at junctions in this way, particularly where pedestrian facilities such as footpaths and crossing points have been provided”.
The council expects to carry out a review of the junction in the next week.
