A WOMAN who was rescued from the River Shannon on Monday night has died in hospital.
The woman and two men were rescued from the water by the Limerick Marine Search and Rescue volunteers.
The Rescue boat was on the river on a search and recovery mission when an alert came in that a woman in her 40’s had entered the water at Harvey’s Quay shortly after 8pm and two men on the scene jumped in to assist her.
The two men who braved the icy water to try to help the woman were treated by paramedics for early signs of hypothermia but are said to have made a good recovery.
The woman was brought to the University Hospital in Dooradoyle but her condition deteriorated overnight and she passed away in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The three person crew of the Search and Rescue were looking for a woman who was seen entering the water last Sunday. The search continues.
