ONE of the loved pillars of national comedy, be it pantomime, theatre or her own string of sell out shows, June Rodgers brings formidable talent back to Limerick on Friday June 5. As before, it takes a venue as large as the concert hall to contain this force of nature/ font of laughs and her many followers. Let The June Rodgers Summer Show open your weekend.
“This slick production brings together June’s stock of hilarious characters with high energy and sophisticated song and dance routines performed by her dynamic cast,” Emma Foote, marketing manager of UCH, tells us. “Be prepared to meet the international man of espionage, Oliver Bond – ‘the spy who loafed me’”.
June, girl, he’s not the only one. You make a lot of people happy.
This is a chance to see Kylie Minogue as you have never seen her, a Ricky Martin impersonator with a Wickla’ accent and some of June’s other characters, old and new. There is a big supporting cast to bring these considerable challenges off.
We are promised smooth choreography and musical arrangements in what is billed as “a glamorous, up-to-the-minute, fun show rooted in the best variety theatre tradition”.
Theatre performance has been June’s first love and she was the queen of panto at the Gaiety for many years. Musicals to her credit include ‘The Full Monty’ and ‘The Pirates of Penzance’. In recent years she has concentrated on producing her own variety-style show for the Moran Hotel group in Dublin and Cork. Listeners of Joe Duffy’s ‘Liveline’ will be very familiar with a regular featured spot on Funny Fridays.
All to live for. Roll up for a place in the aisles on Friday June 5, 8pm; www.uch.ie
