CLLR Maurice Quinlivan has welcomed confirmation that the post office at Watch House Cross is due to reopen next month.
The Limerick Sinn Féin representative had been in contact with An Post about the issue after its closure and being inundated with calls from concerned citizens across the Northside who feared that their local post office had been closed permanently.
“I have been given a firm commitment from An Post that a new post office at Watch House Cross in Moyross will opened on June 2,” Cllr Quinlivan announced.
37 people lost their jobs two weeks ago following the unexpected closure of EuroSpar which caused huge shock across the area. The Ballynantybeg Post Office, which operated from the Watch House Cross Shopping Centre, also temporarily closed and those in receipt of Department of Social Protection payments were advised to collect them from Caherdavin Post Office.
“Many rumours circulating regarding the possible permanent closure of the service. A Post Office in the Watch House Cross provides an important service to many people in Moyross, Ballynanty and across the Northside.
Many old age pensioners and unemployed people without their own transport have to journey to Caherdavin Post Office to claim their benefits,” he explained.
