Airport growth boosts hotel industry

-

shannonairport THE Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) Shannon Region branch says that the resurgence at Shannon Airport is helping to reboot the hotel industry across the region.

Following a recent IHF meeting in Shannon to support the airport’s ‘Fly Shannon’ campaign, IHF Shannon Branch chairperson Elaina Fitzgerald Kane said that hotels are experiencing a “bounce” from growth in passenger numbers and the expansion of services at the airport.

“It’s no coincidence that we are experiencing an upswing in business at hotels across the region given the resurgence that is ongoing at Shannon. Last year the airport experienced a 17 per cent increase in passenger numbers after the addition of a range of new services.

“It’s great to have those services retained this year as they ensure the region has the type of connections needed directly into the region from our key markets in the US, mainland Europe and the UK,” commented Ms Fitzgerald Kane.

She added that the team at Shannon Airport have “excitement and enthusiasm for the task they have at hand, which is very reassuring for hoteliers”.

“We all have to work together to ensure the services at Shannon are retained. In the IHF we will certainly be doing our part in that regard,” Ms Fitzgerald Kane concluded.
