FOLLOWING the success of Irish Chamber Orchestra’s ‘Carmen’ last year, it presents ‘A Viennese Prom’ at Limerick’s Milk Market for two nights later this month, on Thursday May 28 and Friday 29, 8pm.
“This orchestral extravaganza combines the elegance of Vienna with the rousing sound of the Orchestra,” reports marketing manager Charlotte Eglington. “Eminent German conductor Jochen Rieder takes the baton for this sumptuous Strauss extravaganza. Rieder regularly conducts the great Jonas Kaufmann, so his appearance with the ICO at the Milk Market is much anticipated”.
This original performance in open night air will be joined by German coloratura soprano Gloria Rehm “for a delectable mix of Strauss Viennese waltzes, polkas and song which are as fresh today as they were then”.
Rehm is one of her country’s bright lights having won the prestigious Richard Strauss Competition as well as being nominated as Young Singer of the Year in 2012 and in 2014.
Dancers from Ballet Ireland in costumes of the era will enhance this magical night from a Viennese salon.
From ‘The Blue Danube’ to ‘Tales from the Vienna Woods’ to ‘Die Fledermaus’, there is something here for everyone. Liz Nolan from RTE Lyric fm will host. Book at ww.uch.ie; 061-331549.
