FRIDAY April 17 to Sunday 19 are due dates for kincoratradweekend.com, taking place in the twin towns of Killaloe-Ballina. Live music, set dancing and balladeering inform a friendly programme, open to all ages.
“We have an event packed festival with entertainment to suit all ages and tasted in the trad,” reports Paul Smyth, one of the organisers and a musician himself. “We are delighted to announce some of the big names in the trad world, Seán Smyth of Lúnsasa and Manus McGuuire of the Brock Maguire band”.
Opening at 5pm on Friday 17 in The Anchor Inn, Killaloe, the Youth Trad Group make for a lively showcase. There are multiple options that night from 10pm with a singing session in Reddan’s Bar sounding especially attractive: Seamus Brogan, Tim Dennehy, Nora Butler all directed by fear a tí, Mick Scanlan.
Saturday 18, Flanagan’s in Ballina opens a sweet suite of sessions, with the barge ‘Spirit of Killaloe’ promising a Rolling Wave led by Brendan Quinn and Liz Gaughan; Sunday also. Closing day Sunday 19 offers a junior session with Kincora School of Music, and friends playing at The Washerwoman.
Think 5.30pm for music and dancing at The Anchor Inn, with Reddan’s Bar being the 6.30pm option with Michael ‘Piper’ Cooney and Leon Agnew.
