The ‘Limerick Students: Our City, Our Culture’ showcase will be an hour and a half of song, dance and other cultural performances from across the world, taking over the city centre this Saturday.
Student groups from UL, LIT and MIC will represent their respective cultures, including Saudi Arabian, Irish, French, African and American groups, to send a clear message of exactly how multicultural and talented Limerick is.
The showcase takes place from 11:30 to 13:00 on Bedford Row in the city centre and is free to all. The showcase will underline how Limerick is a thriving student city, with lots of culture to show for it.
The event includes the cooperation and coordination of various groups including Limerick Arts Office, Integration Working Group, Doras Luimni, UL, LIT, MIC, UL International Society, DanceUL and Limerick Art College.
University of Limerick Community Liaison Officer Gabriella Hanrahan said the event would provide the opportunity to profile the student population and culture in Limerick as there are over 25,000 higher education students representing many countries and cultures in the city during the academic year.
The ‘Limerick Students: Our City, Our Culture’ is an initiative started by various community-involved actors in the different third level institutions of Limerick alongside Doras Luimni, a charity for migrant communities. This will be the first of many annual showcases as part of the Limerick Students event.
