A BUSY spring season for Limerick Jazz introduces their fourth gig, The Paul Dunlea Group – comprised of seven seasoned musicians.

Their Limerick date set is for Wednesday April 8, jazz society folk returning Upstairs to Dolan’s after the brou-haha of Gochiasvili on piano in the Warehouse.

Formed in 2011 by the Cork trombonist and composer “as a creative outlet for his own compositions, The Paul Dunlea Group utilises some of Ireland’s finest improvising musicians,” observes host John Daly. “They produce melodic and groove driven music fusing influences of jazz harmony, pop, funk and R&B”.

This line up is Matthew Halpin on saxes, Danny Healy trumpet, Julien Calorossi guitar, Philip Collins on keyboard, bass Eoin Walsh and Davie Ryan on drums.

“A seven piece band.. where else would you find it?” John muses. “All are Irish other than Julien who has studied in Newpark.

“Paul Dunlea is an incredible talent. He is in New York as we speak, having his arrangements played and recorded by a top big band of session musicians. He has done major arrangements for bands all over the world”.

It’s clear Dunlea is becoming a big noise in performing, arrangements and composition, a musician’s musician and writer who graduated not too long ago at all in Composition from Cork School Of Music.
