LIMERICK FC clinched the Under 19 Southern Elite Division title after a 1-0 win away to Cobh Ramblers on Tuesday night.
Substitute Liam McCartan scored midway through the second half to secure the crown for the Super Blues on a windy night at St Colman’s Park.
Limerick came closest to scoring in the first half when Clyde O’Connell’s 30-yard free-kick from was brilliantly pushed onto the post by Cobh goalkeeper Eoghan Daly.
Five minutes after McCartan’s introduction, he made the decisive contribution. O’Connell’s deflected shot was stopped by Daly, but it fell kindly for McCartan to thump it home, with James Duggan also poised to latch onto the rebound.
Cobh almost responded immediately when George Gill’s header forced a splendid save from Tommy Holland, but in the end Limerick held out for a sixth consecutive win, one that confirmed Tommy Barrett’s team as Southern Elite Division champions.
